FINDING MARGIN ON THE BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY

Then he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. (Mark 2:27 NIV) Richard Swenson, M.D., author of the book MARGIN wrote: Something is wrong. People are tired and frazzled. People are anxious and depressed. People don’t have the time to heal anymore. There is [...] [READ MORE]

THE MYTH OF THE TWO GODS

March 21, 2012

A recent message from 2nd Samuel 6 touched on the holiness of God expressed in judgment for irreverent acts. In that Old Testament story God struck down Uzzah for touching the Ark of the Covenant. In a similar story in the New Testament God struck down Ananias and Saphira for fraud in the Church (See Acts 5). This message understandably generated some questions about God and the gospel. One friend summed it up well, “I thought it was all about forgiveness, that God would forgive anything. So I’m having a hard time understanding. Can you explain?” I offered my friend a copy of Mart De Haan’s excellent article on the subject (reprinted at the end of this email). But I’d also like to add a few thoughts of my own. [READ MORE]

GOOD GRIEF IS A GOOD BOOK
Dane Skelton
February 8, 2012

It was February 10, 1976, very late in the day and Dad was overdue for dinner again. It was nothing new. His rather flexible notions of time management often made him late for dinner. Combining that trait with a bright blue sky, a seventy-five degree day and a friend that wanted to go flying with him made a missed dinner almost inevitable.  Mom would keep his plate warm in the oven and we would eat without him.  [READ MORE]

Welcome to FCC

Welcome to our website! We’re glad you’ve stopped by to check us out. This website is designed with you in mind. We hope that what you see here will encourage you to drop by for a personal visit this Sunday.

Speaking of visiting, some of our guests come from positive church experiences in other places and are hoping to find the same here. Some come from not so positive experiences. Some have no experience at all! We can identify! We’ve “Been there done that” in church life. That’s why we think FCC is special. All people, from all races and walks of life are welcome here.

We believe that a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is the heart of a healthy, happy spiritual life. Because of that we are committed to teaching the Bible in a way that is clear, accurate and practical.

But the best relationships, even relationships with God, are built slowly. We recognize that this is a process that takes love, learning and patience. So our goal is to create an environment for you and for each other where we can learn, rest, heal and grow in the presence of God.

None of this matters of course unless it is your journey. So we invite you to walk with us a while and see if this is where you belong. We will not pressure you. But we will do our best to make you feel welcome.
